A host of stars are through to Day 2 of the EPT Grand Final including NHL legend and Team PokerStars SportStar Mats Sundin and PokerStars-sponsored British football icon Teddy Sheringham.

A total of 848 players entered the EPT Grand Final including 161 who won their seats to the €10,600 Main Event on PokerStars. They came from 51 different countries to create a total prize pool of €8,480,000 and a first prize of €1,700,000.

The overall chip leader – by some distance – is PokerStars player Thiago Nishijima from Brazil with 264,200. PokerStars qualifier Paul Berende from Holland, who came 17th at San Remo last week, is in second place with 195,500.

Among today’s other 413 survivors were French tennis champion Gael Monfils, who was making his debut as a member of Team PokerStars SportStar, the French rap star Bruno “Kool Shen” Lopes, the PokerStars-sponsored British footballer Teddy Sheringham and German best-selling author Charlotte Roche as well as Petter Northug, the Norwegian Olympic cross-country skier.

More than 20 members of Team PokerStars Pro got through Day 1 including Johannes Steindl (141,300), Joe Cada (123,600), Alex Gomes (122,800), Chris Moneymaker (119,900), Vicky Coren (114,000).

PokerStars Team Online members Grayson Physioc, Jorge Arias, Alfio Battisti and Luca Moschitta are all returning tomorrow as are six of this season’s Main Event winners: Liv Boeree, Harrison Gimbel, Aaron Gustavson, Anton Wigg, Kevin MacPhee and Carter Phillips.

The event is running April 25 to 30 at Le Sporting venue at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel. Last year’s Main Event was won by Dutch Team PokerStars Pro Pieter de Korver for a first prize of €2,300,000.
