Texas Holdem is the most famous and important poker game in the world. In Hold’em, each player receives 2 hole cards that belong only to him. Three community cards are dealt face up on the board (the flop) so all the players can use them. Another card is dealt face up (4th street), and then another card is dealt face up (the river). Every player can use the 5 cards dealt face up on the table to make the best 5 card hand, so each player has 7 cards to make the best five card hand.

The three variations of Hold’em are distinguished by their betting limits:

Limit Texas Hold’em: the betting limit is a default in each round of betting.

Texas Hold’em No Limit: a player can bet all their chips.

Pot Limit Texas Hold’em: a player can bet only what is in the pot.

How to play Texas Hold’em

The Dealer

The D symbol indicates who the dealer in the game is and in the first round of betting is the last player to act.

The Blinds

The blinds are forced bets that 2 players will have to make before cards are dealt. The player to the left of the dealer is the “small blind” and the “big blind” is the player to the left of the “small blind”. Big Blind is usually double the small blind.

Flop

The flop is the 3 community cards dealt on the table, also known as The Board. The first player to act is the one immediately left of the button and players can check or bet.

The Turn

The turn is also known as the 4th street. It begins when all the betting in the flop is over and a new card is dealt face up in the board. Betting is the same as in the flop; check or bet.

The River

The River is also known as the 5th street. It begins when betting in the turn ends and a new card is dealt face up on the board. Betting is the same as in the flop and turn.

The Showdown

After the river card (last card) is dealt face up, a last round of betting begins. When the players are finishing betting, checking or raising, they must show or fold their cards so that a single player will be declared the winner of the pot.

The idea behind Five Card Draw is to get the best hand of five cards.

How to play Five Card Draw

Each player is dealt five hole cards face down. The first player after the big blind has the option to fold, call or raise. Action continues clockwise around the poker table until all participants complete their betting round.

Once the first betting round is complete; there is a first draw. Each player selects the cards to discard. Discarding continues around the table to the left. After the first round to draw cards (the same amount as discarded), there is another betting round, beginning with the first active player to the left of the button. Therefore, the action sequence is:

Each player receives five cards.

First round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the big blind.

Discard and draw cards.

Second round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the big blind.

Showdown.

Showdown

The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot.

Badugi is a draw poker game that is very similar to the low and the lowest hand wins. The best hands are those that are single and have four low cards, each with a stick. This is known as badugi.

How to Play Badugi

Badugi is played with antes known as blinds. The player to the left of the dealer posts a small blind and the player to the left of both is the big blind. The small blind is usually half the big blind.

Each player is dealt four cards face down. Then follows the first round of betting and they can call, raise or fold. The remaining players in the hand after the first round of bets have the option to dismiss. The idea is that you can discard the cards you do not want and replace them with ones that will improve your hand. If you want, you can choose to discard four cards and then begins a second round of betting wherein players have the option to bet or fold. If there is no bet, you can spend. Once this round of betting ends then another round of betting and discarding begins. This second round is followed by a final round of betting and discarding, after which, if more than one player remains, they proceed to a final showdown and the player with the best hand wins the pot.

Strategy

The objective is to make a badugi: a hand of four cards of four different suits low and without partners. The best possible starting hand is; therefore, 4-3-2-A (each letter of a different suit). In Badugi, hands are ranked by their highest card with the ace always remaining low and ignoring the stairs. A player with a hand of 9-8-4-3 of mixed suits (a “nine-badugi”) loses to an opponent with a hand of 8-7-3-2 (a ” badugi eight”) of different suits. Also, 6-3-2-A (a “badugi six”) loses to a 5-4-3-2 (a” badugi five”). If multiple players tie with the highest card in his hand, consider the next highest card, and so on. Consequently, a 6-5-4-A (a “badugi six-five”) loses against a 6-4-3-2 (a “badugi six-four”).

If a hand reaches the showdown without any player achieving a badugi; then the player with the best hand of three or two cards wins the pot.

Omaha High and Low (also known as Omaha Hi / Lo) is played like Omaha High with the exception that the pot can be split in two ways: the High Hand and the Low Hand. In this poker game, each player is dealt four cards (hole cards) that belong only to that player. Five community cards are dealt face up on the table. All players use two of their four hole cards with three board cards to form the best hand of five card poker hand possible. Omaha Hi / Lo is played with a requirement of 8 or better, this means that a hand must be less than or equal to 8-7-6-5-4 to qualify for the low hand. Types of Omaha Hi Lo games include:

Omaha Hi / Lo is played in 3 different structures as in Omaha High.
Limit Omaha Hi Lo: betting limits apply.
Omaha Hi / Lo Pot Limit: the bets are limited to the amount of the pot.
Omaha Hi / Lo No Limit: The player can bet all your chips.

How to play Omaha High and Low

The Dealer

The D symbol indicates who the dealer in the game is and who in the first round of betting is the last player to act.

The blinds

The blinds are forced bets that 2 players will have to make before cards are dealt. The player to the left (of the dealer) is the “small blind” and the “big blind” is the player at the left to the “small blind”. Big Blind is usually double the small blind.

Flop

The flop is the 3 community cards dealt on the table, also known as The Board. The first player to act is the one immediately left to the button; players can check or bet.

The Turn

The turn is also known as 4th street and it begins when all the betting in the flop is over and a new card is dealt face up on the board. Betting is the same as in the flop.

The River

The River is also known as 5th street and it begins when betting in the turn ends and a new card is dealt face up on the board. Betting is the same as in the flop and turn.

The Showdown

After the river card is dealt face up, a last round of betting takes place and then when the players are finishing betting, checking or raising, players must show the cards so a player will be decided the winner of the pot. The player with the best five-card hand for high wins half the pot, and the player with the best hand for low wins the other half. If several players have identical hands, the shares of the high and low hand the pot are split evenly between the players with the best hands. In the event that no hand qualifies for low (i.e. 8 or higher), the best high hand wins the pot.

Razz (Seven Card Stud, played ONLY for low) is a form of poker in which the lowest hand of aces to five wins the pot at the showdown. In Razz, seven cards are dealt to each player during the course of the hand, but players may only use the bestfive-card hand of each one to determine the winner.

Razz Ace to Five is the method used to classify the low hands. The best possible hand would be the “wheel”: 5, 4, 3, 2, A. Some Razz hands with 10 being the best:

3, 3, 3, 5, 5

K, K, 4, 3, 2

2, 2, 7, 6, 5

A, A, T, 9, 8

K, Q, J, T, 9

K, Q, J, T, 7

9, 8, 7, 6, 5

9, 7, 6, 5, 3

9, 7, 6, 5, A

6, 5, 4, 3, 2

6, 4, 3, 2, A

5, 4, 3, 2, A

How to play Razz

Remember that a low hand is always ranked the highest card down. For example, the hand 9 is known as “Six-low” (six low) because the six is the highest card. The hand 5 is a “Seven-low” (seven low) and the hand 5 is an “eight-low” (eight low). In the language of poker, we distinguish between similar low hands down the categories, for example, the hand 9 would be a “Six-Four low” (six four lowest) hand than 8, a “Six-Five low” (six five low).

Before you start a game of RAZZ, all players must put a nominal amount called the ante.

Third Street

Each player is dealt three cards; two of them face down and one face up. The player with the lowest exposed card is the bring-in, and is bound to be the first to act. Players must make another nominal bet (the exact amount again depending on the game) or, if they prefer, a full bet in the minimum increase. The action continues in the clockwise direction until the betting round is over.

Fourth Street

Each player now receives another exposed card called “Fourth Street”. The first player to act is one that has the best poker hand displayed visible in his letters. For example, in the example above, the player with pocket kings acts first, for his letters discovered is more than the pair of jacks. This player may check or bet the amount set lower (e.g. $1 in a game of $1 / $2). There is a round of betting.

Fifth Street

Then each player receives another exposed card, called “Fifth Street”. Again, the first player to act is one that has the best poker hand displayed visible in his letters. There is a round of betting. From Fifth Street falls, all bets are in big bets ($2 in a game of $1 / $2).

Sixth Street

Around round starts wherein each player receives another exposed card called “Sixth Street”. Again, the first player to act is one that has the best poker hand displayed visible in his letters. There is a round of betting.

Seventh Street or River

Finally, each player receives another covered card (face down). The first player to act is one that has the best poker hand displayed visible in his letters. There is one final round of betting.

Showdown

The player with the best five-card LOW hand wins the pot. If several players have identical hands, the pot is split equally between the players with the best hands.

2-7 Triple Draw is a form of poker in which the lowest hand wins the pot at the showdown. It is a game in which five cards are requested and can be discarded from any five cards in the deal and receive the same number of cards in the next hand.

In Triple Draw, each player has the opportunity to ask three times if you cannot change any letter (i.e. not to discard any cards) on any or all shifts. Further in 2-7, the ladder and color ranges are valid in determining the “weakness” in your hand and the Ace is always high. Therefore, the best possible hand is: 7, 5, 4, 3 and 2. The following lists of hands are ranked from the weakest to most powerful:

J, 7, 4, 3, 2

8, 7, 6, 5, 4

7, 6, 5, 4, 3

5, 5, 5, 6, 3

2, 2, 7, 6, 5

A, 9, 6, 4, 2

A, 8, 7, 4, 2

A, 5, 4, 3, 2

K, J, 8, 7, 4

10, 7, 5, 4, 3

10, 6, 5, 4, 3

10, 6, 5, 4, 2

9, 7, 6, 4, 3

8, 6, 4, 3, 2

7, 6, 4, 3, 2

7, 5, 4, 3, 2

The action sequence in 2-7 Triple Draw is:

Each player receives five cards

First round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the big blind

First round draw cards

Second round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the big blind

Second round draw cards

Third round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the big blind

Third round draw cards

Fourth betting round, beginning with the player to the left of the big blind

Showdown

Showdown: The player with the best hand of 5 cards, wins the pot.

This player may check or bet the amount set lower (eg $ 1 in a game of $ 1 / $ 2).

Seven Card Stud High and Low has traditional best high hand and best low hand as five split the pot at the showdown. In Seven Card Stud High and Low is dealt seven cards to each player during the course of the hand, but only uses the best five-card hand of each one to determine the winner.

Iin Seven Card Stud High and Low, the low hand is played with a requirement of “8 or Better (8 or better), which means that a low hand must be less than or equal to 8 to be eligible for part of the pot down. If no low hand, the high hand wins the pot.

In Stud Hi / Lo uses the Ace to Five qualifying low hand. The best possible hand would be the “wheel”: 5, 4, 3, 2, A. We show you this ranking which 10 is the stromgest low.

8, 7, 6, 5, 4

8, 7, 6, 5, 3

8, 6, 4, 2, A

8, 4, 3, 2, A

7, 6, 5, 4, 2

7, 6, 5, 2, A

7, 5, 4, 3, 2

6, 5, 4, 3, 2

6, 4, 3, 2, A

5, 4, 3, 2, A

Remember that a low hand is always ranked the highest card down. For example, the hand 9 is known as “Six-low” (six low) because the six is the highest card. The hand 5 is a “Seven-low” (seven low) and the hand 5 is an “eight-low” (eight low). In the language of poker, we distinguish between similar low hands down the categories, for example, the hand 9 would be a “Six-Four low” (six four lowest) hand than 8, a “Six-Five low” (six five low).

Before you start a game of Seven Card Stud High and Low, all players must put a nominal amount called the antes.
